“Music does what words alone cannot do. It is capable of expressing a dimension of meaning and feeling that words alone cannot convey” (Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship 124). Our youth are especially encouraged to take part in the music program and gain service hours as well as being part of the active life of the parish.

There are several ways one can become a part of the Music Ministry at St.  Stephen:

9am Choir      Sings at the 9am Mass from the Sunday after Labor Day through Corpus Christi, and some Holy Days. Rehearses Tuesdays from 7:00 – 8:30pm. No audition is necessary.

11am Choir    Sings at the 11am Mass from the Sunday after Labor Day through Corpus Christi, and some Holy Days. Rehearses Wednesdays from 7:00 – 8:30pm. No audition is necessary.

                    Time Commitment (Choir):
Weekly 90 minute weeknight rehearsal
Weekly 30 minute rehearsal before Mass and the Mass itself

Cantors         The role of cantor is a dual ministry of Song Leader and Psalmist.  They should normally belong to a choir, and would assist in leading the sung parts of the liturgy at either the 5pm, 9am, or 11am Mass. An informal audition with the Music Director is necessary to undertake this ministry.

                    Time Commitment (Cantor):
Generally the same as the choir
Home preparation of the hymns/songs, liturgical music, and psalms

Instrumentalists        Play at the 5pm, 9am, or 11am on a schedule that both enhances the Music Ministry and fits the player’s schedule. A minimum of two years playing an instrument and an informal audition with Music Director are necessary to undertake this ministry.

                    Time Commitment (Instrumentalists):
Home preparation of the hymns/songs, liturgical music, and psalms
Occasional weeknight rehearsal (no more than 6 a year)
30 minute rehearsal before Mass and the Mass itself on weeks you are playing.

Children’s Choir – plans are being formulated
