Home / Ministries / Readers

When the Scriptures are read in Church, God himself is speaking to his people, and Christ, present in his own word, is proclaiming the gospel (General Instruction of the Roman Missal 29). In proclaiming the word of God, readers exercise their responsibility in mediating the presence of Christ. God speaks to the assembly through them, and the impact of God’s message will depend significantly on their conviction, their preparation and their deliver.

Those who wish to undertake this ministry are to be fully initiated, active members of the parish. They should be of sufficient age, maturity, and temperament to serve in this ministry. They must have no impediment to receiving Holy Communion and be participating in the sacramental life of the Church.

They must complete and keep current on the Diocesan Safe Environment Certification and commit to on-going training, spiritual enrichment, and catechetical formation.
