On February 2, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Candles are blessed and lit, symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. A special blessing and procession will take place in the Narthex before Mass begins

I’m Hunter Ostapowicz, and I am a born and raised Westsider. I grew up attending Saint Anthony’s Parish and the school, to eventually graduate from All Saints Academy, then I moved onto West Catholic High School. When I made the transfer to West Catholic, I began to attend the Basilica of Saint Adalbert where I became very involved and ultimately felt pushed by God and those around me to enter seminary. I entered seminary with a religious community called the Congregation of Holy Cross where I ultimately felt called to come home back to Grand Rapids. I was hired by Emmanuel Hospice as a chaplain in February 2020 right before the lockdowns happened. This work was very difficult and emotional, but it ultimately showed me I needed to give seminary a try once again. I have made it through more than half of my seminary formation, and now it is time for me to begin my internship with you all starting in February 2024! This will be a time for me to be present to the parish, see the life of the Church at a new parish, and to learn the ins and outs of what a diocesan priest does every day. I really look forward to getting to know everyone, and I am thankful already for those that have reached out to me to make me feel welcome. The internship concludes August 2024, where I will then return to the seminary. Until next month, know of my prayers for the parish/school. God bless!

Is God calling you to be part of a prayer team for your priest? At the encouragement of Bishop Walkowiak, the Grand Rapids Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (GRDCCW) are facilitating the creation of Seven Sisters Apostolate prayer teams for every parish in the diocese. Seven women each pray on their assigned day of the week for one hour for their priest.
